Breakaway 2026 with Special Guest Tom Laidlaw
March 10th, 2026
Wollman Rink, Central Park

Picture

We had an unseasonably warm evening at Wollman Rink on March 10th for Breakaway 2026. The temperature reached nearly 70 degrees, and while the warmth made for a beautiful night in the park, it left the ice a bit slushy early on. By the end of the evening, though, the rink had refrozen and was in fantastic condition—an almost perfect reflection of the night itself, coming together in all the right ways.

We welcomed several hundred supporters, along with many of our athletes and their families, all gathered around the rink that has become such a central part of our program. The energy throughout the evening was special. Seeing the players up close—how they compete, how they carry themselves, and how much they love the game—remains the most powerful and unique part of Breakaway.

We raised more than $350,000 to support the program, which will allow us to continue to provide ice time, equipment, development, and travel to tournaments around the country.

The top video shown at the event was created once again by our very good friends Joe Quint and John Philp. As always, they captured not just what we do, but why it matters—to the players and to their families. It is an outstanding piece of work and a meaningful part of the evening.

Below, you will also find a link to the event journal, beautifully created by Sarah Sills. Sarah has a unique ability to understand the spirit of this program and translate it into something visual and lasting. We are very grateful for her work and hope you will take a moment to look through it.

You will also find a collection of outstanding photographs from the evening taken by Alison Graham, which capture the spirit and energy of the night.

We would also like to thank our corporate sponsors, who are listed below. This year, we had 47 corporate sponsors—the most we have ever had. I am incredibly grateful for the continued support of so many organizations, and especially thankful for the exceptional generosity of Stan Middleman at Freedom Mortgage and Larry Robbins at Glenview Capital.

And thanks to our wonderful emcee, Scarlet Fu, for once again donating her time and energy. She brings a warmth and professionalism that makes the event feel both polished and personal.

Finally, thank you to all of the parents, volunteers, and guests who make this program what it is. Your support, your time, and your belief in these athletes are what make everything possible. Nights like this don’t happen without you.

See you at Breakaway 2028.
